The characters in Dead Man drinking play a game they call Killer, also known as Assassin, Elimination or Gotcha. Check out the wikipedia entry for detailed information.

These are the basic rules as laid out by Karl for the players:

• Two targets will be selected by myself [sic] for each player. Your objective involves "killing" your targets using clearly marked toy weapons, while attempting to ascertain who is trying to kill you - and stopping them.
• You may not use your weapons on another player whom you have identified as your would-be assassin - until such time as they attempt the kill. Then you may take them out in self-defense.
• The game is played for points. After each kill successfully executed, the other players will vote on the value of the kill - one, two or three points depending on the style and quality of the assassination. This does not apply to self-defense kills.
• A kill executed perfectly and creatively is worth three points, where-as a 'typical' kill with a firearm executed sloppily is worth only one.
• Any weapons can be used, as long as they are obvious. A 'knife', for example, could be a cardboard strip with 'knife' written clearly on it. In the event that a rule is unclear, it shall be voted on.
• Due to the small number of players, no masks will be allowed - showing a weapon will forfeit whatever kill was being attempted, and if no kill was being performed, a point will be lost instead.

In some countries (like, say, Australia) it is illegal to own any replica guns, and it is also considered both a legal and practical hazard to go about in public waving toy guns around, as cops may either fine you or gun you down (the latter primarily if you have the dubious honour of living in Melbourne). So please exercise caution, restraint and common sense when playing. If you are incapable of these things, please go and stand in the corner for half an hour with your hands on your head instead of playing this game.

There is another "game" in Dead Man Drinking. Or rather, there can be - the Dead Man Drinking Drinking Game (DMDDG). To do this, get your drinks ready and take a hit every time any of the following things happen:

• Allan says something that makes him seem like an arsehole (that's asshole for you yanks).
• Stacy raises her voice.
• Leanna slurs something in a scene.
• Chris gets insulted or made to look the fool by one of the other players.
• ANY TIME ANYONE USES THE F-BOMB (Given the number of instances that this occurs in the film, we don't actually expect anyone to survive this particular drinking game. If you do, feel free to tell us about it so we can laugh at you.)
